[Q] Archos Platinum HD really bad?

$

Hi,

So I recently bought a Platinum HD 9.7 to replace my G9 101 but it is dreadfull !!

Its really slow, I keep getting 'Force Closes', the Wifi is flakey and charging via USB is a bit dodgy, the connector has to be perfectly flush and it only seems to work with the supplied charger, most other chargers don't even register (I know you need the proper charger to charge at a decent rate, but it should still charge slowly off a 500mA supply).

Is anyone else seeing these issues?

Also slightly worrying I tried to register my device on the Archos website so I could complain to tech support, but it says the serial number is unrecognised, Could I have a cheap chinese clone ? I bought it from overclockers which seem reputable ?

Cheers,

Neil

Hi. Tried out 4.4.3 (06_06_2014-21_46_36.) today and it works great! First time rooted and installed from 4.0.28 official! Everything went good.

However, when trying to install a big application (Battlefield Commander) or other (happens on some apps), I get the 492 error. I searched for 14hours for solution, for e.g cleaning data & cache on Google Play Store and Google Framework including Download Manegement but no solution. I tried go into SDE and find a setting to remove cache or repair permissions but can't find any. EDIT: Can't even save screenshots or pictures, or anything. says " external storage is maybe being used ".(I dont have a SD card connected, never had one) Thanks for helping out!

Hello,

I just installed CyanogenMod 11.0 on my tablet ''g9 101 turbo''
It works really well but I don't know how to access my external usb drive anymore.
(I connect a usb key on the 3g usb port). With the official rom I could access it when I enabled 3g in the settings, but this option is gone in CM 11.
What do I have to do?

Thank you.

[Edit] In the ''Archos Control Panel'' app I activated the ''3g dongle'' option but the usb drive is still not recognized.

a low cost tab, but it makes the job until yesterday...

it requested an update, then wifi function was completely unavailable, so i tried an update from arnova website, and the provided firmware completely ****s my tablet,

now it doesn't look alive, just the screen who's "lightning"

What can i try? does i have any method to reset this tab? other than the "arnova method" or sending it by mail...

Hi guys, I have the archos xenon 64 just wondering is it possible to root or anything like that. I'm pretty sure the phone is quite new so I'm not expecting much information.

Hey guys, Cobbie here today I'm bringing you a tutorial on how to root the Archos 64 Xenon, this is a fairly simple tutorial and hope this will help you guys with this following phone. I also tried the following method 2 or 3 times to ensure it worked before actually making a tutorial and every time it was a success.

Note* - I'm not sure if this tutorial is in the right section so if it's not can an admin please move it to the correct location thank you.

Tutorial video' s here

Part 1 Rooting the device - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoYyLMUggu4

Part 2 Replacing VROOT superuser with the official Superuser - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20NgL2XmKJ8

Downloads needed will be in the description of the video due to the fact I'm not sure if you are allowed to provide external links so yeah.

[Q] Archos 101 G9 bricked?

Hi there
I have used this tablet without bigger problems for months. a few days ago I've turned it on and after a few minutes using it the device froze completely. then the screen turned black after a few seconds, power led off. I've tried to reset it by pressing power button long and nothing happens, display black, led off.
Everytime I plug it in, the power led turns on, but nothing else happens.
Today I've opened the device and found out the batteries are at 2.8V. I've then charged them with my Lipo charger (had to desolder it, charge and then resolder). Still nothing works. And if there's no battery connected the exact same happens like with the batteries in place: nothing exept green led turns on.
So, why did this happen and how can it be fixed?
Thanks

[Q] Unable to save G9 101 Turbo from CWM Recovery?!?

Hi guys,

So a few months back I tried to install a custom rom onto my Archos G9 10.1 Turbo. Only thing is that I kinda c***ed it up and have a form of soft brick.

The soft brick consists of this... I turn the device on and it has a 50/50 chance of either trying to boot any Android rom it can find OR it just dumps me into the CWM Recovery.

Here's where my problem comes in. I don't have any way of installing a working Android rom. The one I have in my internal memory (CyanogenMod 10.1 Unofficial ROM) has become corrupt (don't quite understand how that may have happened) it comes up with the following error:
Code:

E: Can't open /sdcard/cm10.1-2013/05/27-UNOFFICIAL0archos_g9.zip (bad)
Installation aborted.

I've also tried to install the zip from sideload and my computer doesn't recognize (and sometimes doesn't even know I've plugged it in) the device and just aborts it.

I've also tried accessing the external sd card, but to no success.

Any ideas on how I can save my tablet?

Thanks.

Jamie.

how to install android on it?

[TUT] Installing a custom ROM using Windows

Installing custom ROMs on an ARCHOS 80/101 G9 from absolute scratch on Windows

The reason I'm bothering with this is because I found it a total pain to do, given that I knew nothing about Linux and really didn't have time to learn anything. I was attempting to install Quallenauge's port of Cyanogenmod 11 onto my device, using the instructions given in the guide (if you're interested in the ROM, you can find it here: http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2580688). However, the guide only gave instructions for Linux which, obviously, wasn't too helpful. So, here's my little step-by-step guide for doing it.

Pre-requisites
  1. A rooted, fully charged G9 tablet with SDE installed
  2. Micro-USB cable
  3. Your desired ROM downloaded to your PC

Guide
  1. Unzip the ROM to an accessible location, ensuring that you have 3 files: archos.ext4.update, initramfs.cpio.lzo and zImage
  2. Rename archos.ext4.update to archos.ext4
  3. Reboot into recovery mode, select format system then reset android & storage. As stressed in Quallenauge's thread, this is pretty much essential if you're coming from a stock ROM
  4. Download and install Ext2Fsd. This allows Windows to open the EXT3 formatted drive opened when you export the data partition later to move the archos.ext4 file to the device. The software can be found here
  5. Enter the SDE menu on your device and select export data partition, then plug your device into the PC
  6. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the new drive created (for me it was called data [F:]), create a folder in it called local and move the archos.ext4 file to it. Once the copy process is complete, return to the SDE menu
  7. Select flash kernel and initramfs, copy the relevant files to the new drive and flash
  8. When finished, select OK. Your device will now reboot. Remove the USB cable
  9. Wait patiently. My device took nearly 5 minutes to sort itself out and start a final boot. A sign that it's working is that the screen goes black with the backlight alternating on and off. Eventually, your device should display the Archos logo followed by the boot logo of your chosen ROM (for me, the CM11 cyan blue arrow circling Cid's face)

That's pretty much it but hopefully it should save you ages of fiddling and, if you've been at it long enough, swearing at your device. I certainly wish I'd had this.

Easy mistakes to make
  • Not renaming archos.ext4.update to archos.ext4
  • Putting archos.ext4 anywhere other than [YOUR Drive]:\local
  • Not having a fully or nearly fully charged device (shutdown during initialization due to low battery happened to me, yes)

Archos 101 g9 Turbo unresponsive screen and charging issues fixed!

Hello all, i have had an Archos 101g9 Turbo for best part of a couple of years now and although i really like the tablet its has not been without a couple of niggly problems that i wish to share my fix/workrounds.

Charging:
So the first was/is the charging, many people moan about the Archos 101 g9 Trbo not charging and myself including, i even purchased 2 new chargers and they all went down the same road. In the end i found that it was the micro usb becoming worn in such a way that even when plugged in the device reports its charging, yet never does - The answer for me is to plug in the charger and place a couple of coasters (or something aprox 10mm+ thick) under the micro usb plug, whilst the tablet is lying flat on the table surface. This has the effect of forcing the worn pins onto the pins in tablet and therefore charges. This has worked 100% since i starting doing this.

Unresponsive screen:
I noticed (as a coincidence btw) that shortly after a firmware update, that my screen became more and more none responsive with things like the left hand part of the screen was crap and the right was ok just.
Odd things like switching into standby and back appeared to fix the problem, but this ALWAYs got worse, to the point where it was becoming more and more frequent. Then in the end to the point where recalibrating, turning on and off etc did not work, even a sw rebuild didn't solve it eventually it would not work at all full stop. - In the end i managed to prize the back off with a little help from scholbert on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1636768

And noticed that the gold ribbon that links to tablet to the screen appeared to be slightly dislodged, so i carefully pushed it back and checked the thinner white leads and made sure they were all pushed back fully home. I turned it on and hey presto ! screen working back to how i remember it when i first baught it \o/

Just though i would share because of the countless nonsense i have come across when trying to find a resolution to the above issues...

[Q] Restoring from a bootloop with only fastboot accessible?

$

Hi,

Few days ago I managed to put my Archos 79XE into a bootloop during an attempt to deodex the stock rom. Now, I can boot into stock recovery and fastboot modes only.

I contacted Archos customer service, and they sent me an update.zip file, with instructions to copy the update.zip to my sdcard, then flash it through recovery mode. This solution is not applicable, though, since the device recognizes two different sdcard's, one internal and one external, the recovery only sees the internal sdcard, which i can't copy the file to since i don't have ADB access now.

What I did next was an attempt to create a fastboot flashable system.img. But couldn't flash that, as fastboot flash system system.img gets stuck at erasing the partition and never go past it.

So, my question is: is there a way to make the stock recovery work with the external sdcard, instead of the internal? I was thinking maybe fastboot -c and pass some kernel command line to switch both mount points?

Or is there any custom recovery that can apply the update.zip? I couldn't find any cwm or twrp custom recovery for this device.

P.S.
The device reports being a tk8983 in fastboot devices.

USB Keyboard to 3G Port

Hey,
I just bought a tablet case with a keyboard.
I tried to connect it to the back USB port (originally designed for the 3G dongle) and it didn't work.
I tried that on CM10.2 and CM11.

But (on both versions) when I connect it through USB-to-OTG adapter it works perfectly.

Any ideas? :)

Thanks

Hi guys,
I have been looking at a few threads over the 80XS and cannot find an easy way of rooting the device.
To be honest im not a wizz kid at programming or anything of the sort, that's why im looking for an easy plugin & root file/page/system.
I don't want to throw it away but, the lags are doing my head in!! i have to factory reset every week to clean it so it can work without lagging.

Anyway.. Thank you in advance to any of you who answer & help.
